New Blood Pressure Regulations

CHANGED DENTAL REGULATIONS AFFECT PATIENTS WITH UNCONTROLLED HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE

September 2011

The College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario has mandated that all patients must be screened for Hypertension.  Before proceeding with routine dental treatment all patients with High Blood Pressure must have confirmation from their medical doctor that it is ok to proceed with treatment.

It is important to note that your dental appointment may be rescheduled if you are exhibiting high or uncontrolled blood pressure that is not being medically supervised.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?

  • Existing Patients: we are reviewing the medical history we have on record to date and sending the necessary paperwork to your MD prior to your appointment in order to avoid any interruptions to your regularly scheduled appointments.
  • New Patients: the first examination is designed to get to know you and your medical history as well as to develop a treatment plan and this paper work is all part of the process and will not interfere in any way.
  • Emergency Treatments: as always, we will provide any treatment required to get you out of discomfort and then, if needed, will can take care of the paperwork before continuing with the rest of your treatment.

We invite you to visit the Hypertension Canada web site to learn more about recent Blood Pressure Regulations:
